Musing in Amsterdam.

Posted November 28th, 2007 by minicloud

I love travelling, I really do. And if I had to say, I like travelling alone.
Nothing beats the sheer thrill of finding out how to go to a place and getting yourself there.

I had the honour of shooting with Nicoline once again during my brief stay in Amsterdam, and I had to travel up to Utrecht to meet her.

Sure, it was only a tram ride to the City Central station and another 30min train ride from Amsterdam to Urtrecht. But a person in a foreign land, it was mystery, it was excitement and possibly meant stepping out of his/her own comfort zone.

There is a certain charm to Amsterdam I can’t quite put my finger on… like there’s something sinister waiting deep within, shrouded by the winter nights that comes too soon. There’s much more character there. I’d love to go back again.

it reads “he awoke to feel numb again”

the best hot chocolates comes in a stick that you have to swirl in hot milk to melt. whipped cream is love.

Nicoline and I hung out for quite abit the day after the shoot in Amsterdam itself. Europe changes you. That old charm that still lingers behind.

The most annoying part of my trip was the throbbing pain from my wisdom tooth.

I like travelling alone. But I’d like someone to share it with too.

    FIRST.. XD
Well… I travelled alot when I was a little kid, so I guess I don’t like to travel alone, because I am very scared by myself… always ask my friends to follow me somewhere (i’m an annoying girl! GYAHAHA!).

But really… it seems so mysterious to travel alone.. I want to try it at least ONCE…
SUCK UP THE COURAGE… is what I need t do^^

I think the best thing is to travel with a bestest best friend.

i love to travel alone too. i love that feel of independance, and self-awareness. i love how one gets to know oneself better when travelling alone. :)

You know, I’ve always wished to see places alone, mainly because I wish that nobody bothers me when I’m traveling… But don’t you ever worry about something happening in a different country? Like my mother always thinks I’ll get raped where ever I go… What about you? How do you deal with traveling alone?

you are more aware of your surroundings when u travel and navigate alone. You don’t get spoon-fed like when u join tour groups and follow blindly or have the luxury of a tour bus.
You do as locals do, you observe what they do and how they do it and the beauty of what seems so normal to them can be so fascinating to you.

there’s always a certain risk involved when travelling alone. but know the limits. know not to be stupid enough to wonder into places you know you shouldn’t. In places like South Africa, I would not even think of wondering out alone.

i agree with Yun, to travel alone you need to do some minimal homework and research on that place before heading there. common sense is key to keeping oneself safe. don’t accept offers from strangers, don’t be loud and please wear conservatively to not draw unwanted attention to yourself. know your limits, and personally, i do not recommend going clubbing if you’re alone. you never know what’s going on at all.
