Travel Log: Paris, France. Palace of Versailles

Posted April 8th, 2007 by minicloud

So I touched down in Paris at 7am local time. Having gone through a 12hr 30min flight with minimum rest, I refused to waste any time sleeping when i reached the hotel. Oh yes, I’m staying in Le Meridian Etoile. Near to the train station, Porte Maliot.

My home for the next 2days.

In my last Paris post I talked about how it’s a challenge to negotiate the Paris subway. This time, I ventured out of Paris city itself to the Palace of Versailles.

Yes, all the buildings in this pic are part of the palace.

I believe it was a Good Friday holiday or something, for some reason, there were just soooo many people sightseeing while I was there. It could be the good weather or something too. But it took soooo long to queue up for tickets it was ridiculous.

it took 1hr 20mins to get in. Pink lines are the queues.

But upon entering, it was a visual feast of French interior architecture.

The chapel is amazing. The paintings on the ceiling must’ve taken months to do

Detailed look at the paintings on the ceiling

Walkway of kings and queens.

random artistic pic that I took.

The opera theatre where King Louis XVI and Marie Antionette wedded. They were 14 and 15 yrs old.

The foyer where the King meets his distinguished guests after the play. He makes the grand entrance with the door with the statue of Apollo is over his head.

The entrance to the Hall of Mirrors.

The Hall of Mirrors. A symbol of opulance since mirrors were really expensive during those times.

At this point of time, I’d like to say that I’m damn tired resizing the photos. I took a total of 266pictures in 2 days. okay, moving on~

The King’s chambers.

Council study, where the kind presides over the various councils with his ministers.

Colour’s probably a tad too warm for some people, but I realllly like this picture.

The famous garden of Versailles.

A view of the entire garden estate.

I didn’t venture out to the Marie Antionette estate cause it was really too far. It’s 3.8km from one end of the garden to the other end. And the estate is much too big for me to explore within that day. I had expected the queue-ing time to be much lesser. :(

Oh well, here concludes our tour of Versailles. I hope you enjoyed it.
