Of thoughts and monetary issues.

Posted June 30th, 2009 by minicloud

I have a cousin who is capable.
She is one of those people who actually enjoys studying.

In fact she is so good at what she does, she was offered a place in Oxford.
Yes, THE Oxford, where your fucking dictionaries come from.

Unfortunately for her, her family isn’t able to afford Oxford and the various institutions she applied to for monetary aid did not get back to her.
And she’s got to settle for a PhD in NTU.

All she said was:”it’s ok..there is both gain n loss no matter if i go oxford or nt :)”
the smiley included.

What a sensible girl.

I wish I had been able to offer some monetary aid or if the rest of the family would be able to chip in. I will not go into details.

I want to be able to have the monetary means to exceed my child’s abilities, be it academics, music, dance, arts or wadever.

Streetfest 2009

Posted June 15th, 2009 by minicloud

It’s a bad idea to dress up in lolita on a 33degree Celsius day.
It was Streetfest yesterday in the hottest period in Singapore. We’re all dying form the humidity within 15mins of arriving.

Dawn, Alanna and I went as a happy AP trio~!

Macaron Twins~!

Wrist cuffs I made for everyone~!

I have no idea what we’re doing here.

Shaozhen and Shaoyang

She gets love from everyone.

Sharon and Isabel in baby

Dawn in Macaron jsk holding her beloved Kutsushita nyanko.

Shaoyang is so pwetty in this dress.

You decide what this is.

Shannen and kitty in baby.

Iris in naoto, which seems like a realllly good idea.

Our rose candle triplets demonstrates Hime done right.

Steph and her very expensive iPhone cover.

That’s all for my image dump.

I am blessed

Posted June 7th, 2009 by minicloud

Due to an unfortunate miscalculation of how fucked up money grubbing drivers can be, my colleagues and I were left stranded in downtown Los Angeles.

Our hotel is in Torrance.

If anyone should know anything about LA, is that everyone drives. Public transportation is practically unheard of, except for local bus services. There’s no subway, cabs are hard to hail if you’re walking on the streets randomly.

So there we are, royally fucked. No car, no driver.

But thankfully, I met some of the nicest strangers I have ever came across in my life.

The nice lady (I think she’s Japanese) working at guest services in Beverly Center, gave us a detailed printout of the buses we have to take, the bus stop we have to take it at, what time the bus arrives and reaches its destination and the cost of it. She worked out our transfer time and pointed us to where we should take the first bus. All i was expecting was a verbal instructions.
She gave me a printout, highlighting the name of the bus and the time.

We headed out to look for the bus stop, it is not like Singapore where there’s a definite indication that the place you’re standing at is a bus stop. Sometimes it’s just a bench, with an obscure sign saying “bus stop” hanging off somewhere and it’s the size of an A4 folder.

There were these ladies who were trying to help us locate the exact stop to go to, and when they cldn’t, directed us to Sofitel where there’s definitely a Concierge who can help us.

The receptionist at Sofitel went to get a map for us even though we weren’t even the guests at the hotel. And even brought us out of the hotel and pointed us to the direction we should be headed to.

The bus driver, whom despite her bad day at work probably, told us when our stop is near.

I am extremely grateful to these strangers I’ve met today and all in a span of a few hours, I am blessed and overwhelmed.

Thank you very much.

Arianne~!!!

Posted May 10th, 2009 by minicloud

I visited Dolpa for the first time in my life.

Unfortunately and fortunately actually
I was broke and didn’t manage to buy much. But I did wanted to splurge on my little girl so she got new hair and eyes.

The eyes are really darling and I couldn’t resist the pale pink wig.

So here she is, post-Dolpa. I love her even more.

Left 4 Dead.

Posted April 28th, 2009 by minicloud

Okay, so you may have noticed my disappearance…. and also that zombie bumper sticker on the right sidebar.

I did not get kidnapped by zombies.

But still, I recently discovered the joys of first person shooter game (fps usually means frames per second to me I’m sorry) and have been playing with my dear friends.

In any case, I am going to the LAN shop to play today.

If you see a bunch of people with the weirdest usernames, it should be us.

It’s difficult to shoot with a wide angle lens with so many people around. I get them in the picture and it looks messy.

But dramatic no?

The Anti-technophiles

Posted April 6th, 2009 by minicloud

I am very bothered by people in this time and age who are technologically handicapped (granted not our parents who might not even own an email address.)

But people like you and I who have been on computers since the Internet boom.

I’m not speaking about how they should’ve been able to code C++ or speak binary by now. But by the simplest questions like:

“How do I set up a blog?”
“How do I use Bittorrent? What is it?”

I mean, I’m not the guru of the Internet, but information is presented to you online. You just have to search for it. Asking someone else you know doesn’t exactly help so just do us all a favor and just fucking GOOGLE it.

The level of intelligence by someone in the day and age is no longer largely dependent on genetics or wealth, but by you sheer willingness and determination to seek information when a problem is being presented to you.

So next time you have a fucking question, don’t ask me. Do me a favor and fucking Google it.

PS: unless it is personal.

Lolita meet at The White Rabbit

Posted March 24th, 2009 by minicloud

A few of us decided to organise a pretty last minute meetup (man we’ve gotta stop organising things so last minute).

So we headed to a local church-turned-restaurant called “The White Rabbit”.

The architecture is perfect for Lolita meets.

oh the prettiness~!!

Food wasn’t really fantastic for the price though. I had Mac & Cheese.

And peanut butter chocolate tart for dessert~!! it came with a funky tasting grape soda.

We took some polaroids that day.

Isabel is soooo cute and soooo pretty.

I love this photo. Sharon and Dawn looked like kittens pouncing on each other.

Gothic Arch whoring.

I took so many photos of Dawn.

a genius is me

Posted March 21st, 2009 by minicloud

I think I’m pretty brilliant at times.

This story is going to be long so settle in and grab a coffee.

I was in Tokyo a few days ago and while waiting in the lobby for my colleagues, I dropped my phone.
.
.
.
.
.
yes the fucking iPhone
Flat down. not at an angle.
so you can say that the damn phone got the full impact of the fall from waist height onto a marble floor.
Brilliant isn’t it? (but that’s not why this story is brilliant)

I picked up the phone and to my horror, the screen was blue… like a twitter-blue. with some random vertical lines all over the place.
My day was immediately ruined. But bah… who has time to mourn when shopping awaits really?
(That is still not the point of my story)

The phone technically still works. I can pick up calls I just can’t make them or see who’s calling. not like that is any comfort the horrrrrror
So i backed up my phone for one last time just in case and the syncing works.

So when I got back to Singapore, I went to the Singtel shop to get my phone fixed.
Long story short, they asked if I dropped my phone, I lied. They checked it and couldn’t find any visible evidence of it being dropped (ala scratches, dents) so….

I got a new iPhone

I was seriously expecting to fork out 200bucks to have the LCD replaced.
(and guess what? this is -stilllllllll- not the point of why I’m brilliant)

So i went back happily to restore this iPhone with my former settings, set the alarm on my iPhone and went to bed.

And now i’m up. I swear my body feels weird…. like a it’s-too-early-and-I-should-still-be-sleeping kinda weird.
I checked my clock and it’s one hour behind.

My iPhone was in Tokyo time when it was last backed up and when I restored it, it remained at Tokyo time. So yeah. The point of this brilliant story is that I woke up one hour too early.

Am I a genius or what?
